We study perturbative compactifications of Type II string theory that rely on a fibration structure of the extra dimensions a la SYZ. Non-geometric spaces are obtained by using T-dualities as monodromies. These vacua generically preserve N=1 supersymmetry in four dimensions, and are U-dual to M-theory on G2 manifolds. Several examples are discussed, some of which admit an asymmetric orbifold description. The massless spectrum is matched to that of the dual M-theory compactification on a Joyce...

An archival copy of Flatland ( https://mspfa.com/?s=19 ) as of 2018-03. Contains 78 pages from 2010-02 to 2010-03. Start Reading: https://archive.org/download/MSPFA_19/view.html?s=19&p=1 An optical illusion adventure known for its unique mechanics and low meme density. It was also the second adventure on the forums and has relatively few references, so it's a great place to start if you're new to MSPAFA.

The pure gauge theory in 2+1 dimensions is explored, through both a phenomenological model and a lattice calculation. The Isgur-Paton model is extended to include a curvature term and various mixing mechanisms. The method of inferential statistics is used to extract the parameters of best fit and to compare the likelihoods of the various models when compared to existing lattice data. The conventional assignment of spin 0 to the pseudoscalar state is called into question by the proximity of a...

We investigate the symmetry structure of inflation in 2+1 dimensions. In particular, we show that the asymptotic symmetries of three-dimensional de Sitter space are in one-to-one correspondence with cosmological adiabatic modes for the curvature perturbation. In 2+1 dimensions, the asymptotic symmetry algebra is infinite-dimensional, given by two copies of the Virasoro algebra, and can be traced to the conformal symmetries of the two-dimensional spatial slices of de Sitter. We study the...

Using a non-material current through three new dimensions. It was possible to build a particle-space model (a higher dimensional object intersecting a lower dimensional world). The new dimensions solve the old problem of equal sign walls huge electric repulsion force in the electric sphere model, since these curved dimensions confine these walls, preventing them from coming apart. The flat-fermion, which is a toroid, is resistant to be moved, intersects the space (flatland) in two places at the...

We revisit the flatland paradox proposed by \cite{ston1976} which is an example of non-conglomerability. The aim of the paper is to show that the improperness of the prior is not directly involved in the inconsistency. First, we show that the choice of a flat prior is not adapted to the structure of the parameter space and we consider an improper prior based on reference priors with nuisance parameter for which the Bayesian analysis matches the intuitive reasoning. Then, we propose an analysis...

The $D$-dimensional Coulomb system serves as a starting point for generating generalized atomic shells. These shells are ordered according to a generalized Madelung rule in $D$ dimensions. This rule together with an {\it Aufbau Prinzip} is applied to produce a $D$-dimensional periodic table. A model is developed to rationalize the ordering of the shells predicted by the generalized Madelung rule. This model is based on the introduction of an Hamiltonian, invariant under the $q$-deformed algebra...

Since their introduction by Thurston, measured geodesic laminations on hyperbolic surfaces occur in many contexts. In this survey, we give a generalization of geodesic laminations on surfaces endowed with a half-translation structure, called flat laminations, and we define transverse measures on flat laminations similar to transverse measures on hyperbolic laminations, taking into account that the images of the leaves of a flat lamination are in general not pairwise disjoint. One aim is to...

We describe a recent experiment performed with rubidium atoms ($^{87}$Rb), aiming at studying the coherence properties of a two-dimensional gas of bosonic particles at low temperature. We have observed in particular a Berezinskii--Kosterlitz--Thouless (BKT) type crossover in the system, using a matter wave heterodyning technique. At low temperatures, the gas is quasi-coherent on the length scale set by the system size. As the temperature is increased, the loss of long-range coherence coincides...

Many results in attitude analysis are still meaningful when the attitude is restricted to rotations about a single axis. Such a picture corresponds to attitude analysis in the Euclidean plane. The present report formalizes the representation of attitude in the plane and applies it to some well-known problems. In particular, we study the connection of the 'additive' and 'multiplicative' formulations of the differential corrector for the quaternion in its two-dimensional setting.

The linear Boltzmann equation can be solved with separation of variables in one dimension, i.e., in three-dimensional space with planar symmetry. In this method, solutions are given by superpositions of eigenmodes which are sometimes called singular eigenfunctions. In this paper, we explore the singular-eigenfunction approach in flatland or two-dimensional space.

This paper presents a numerical compression strategy for the boundary integral equation of acoustic scattering in two dimensions. These equations have oscillatory kernels that we represent in a basis of wave atoms, and compress by thresholding the small coefficients to zero. This phenomenon was perhaps first observed in 1993 by Bradie, Coifman, and Grossman, in the context of local Fourier bases \cite{BCG}. Their results have since then been extended in various ways. The purpose of this paper...

In this paper, we present our general results about traversing flows on manifolds with boundary in the context of the flows on surfaces with boundary. We take advantage of the relative simplicity of $2D$-worlds to explain and popularize our approach to the Morse theory on smooth manifolds with boundary, in which the boundary effects take the central stage.
